Hi, I’m Gregg Johnson, a business leadership coach and podcast host.
I possess a passion to help business owners and leaders achieve their full potential, whether that’s as a business leadership coach or as the host of BizTalk Weekly, the podcast I co-host with Keith Orlean. I am laser-focused on seeing my clients succeed, working with them to remove self-limiting beliefs, guide you through the day-to-day business challenges, develop new business skills, all while helping you stay focused on your long-term goals and strategic plan.
When I’m not working with small business owners and operators, I enjoy spending time with my family in the Twin Cities and enjoying the outdoors. You’ll often find me hiking, cycling, and playing golf.

My Background
Prior to my transition to becoming a FocalPoint Business Leadership Coach and host of BizTalk Weekly, I spent years building and managing complex business operations across a number of different industries. I have a track record of offering progressive general management skills built on leadership success within financial, operational, and sales capacities. I’ve worked in exponential sales growth environments and worked to achieve multimillion dollar cost savings.
Most recently, I served as a General Manager at Custom Steelcraft, a small privately-held custom metal fabrication business, where I was responsible for the entirety of sales, customer service, and operations including P&L responsibility. I take great pride in implementing an operating system as the absence of objective data made it difficult for the owner to make decisions. Within two weeks, I developed a scorecard of key performance indicators so ownership had objective data with which to base decisions on.
Prior to Custom Steelcraft, I worked with Kitchen Refresh, a custom construction company specializing in residential remodeling, as a General Manager, managing operations, project management, planning, and budgeting for this franchise. I implemented a master project tracking system and revised the hiring process to adjust the workforce to customer demands.
I spent nearly twenty years as a Chief Financial Officer for multiple mid-sized privately-held organizations between 2000 and 2020, including a $50 million manufacturer of capital goods for municipal and industrial applications and a $40 million manufacturer of customized specialty chemical products for industrial applications. I was involved with all aspects of business operations. I was deeply involved in sales and marketing, operations and back-end functions (including finance, human resources, IT, and supply chain management).
Early in my career I worked for Jostens, CAE & US Filter in various capacities, doing financial reporting, annual and strategic planning, forecasting, cash management, supply chain, human resources, and IT. During my time there, I became a key member of the leadership teams, often providing a financial and quantitative perspective to non-financial leaders.
I hold a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, and hold a Master of Business Administration from University of St. Thomas.
